Benedict College’s Tyrone Adams Burroughs School of Business and Entrepreneurship is highly accredited by the ACBSP. The mission of the College is to “provide transformative learning experiences. Characterized by high quality academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular programming, intentionally designed to develop superior cultural and professional competencies for a diverse student body.” The College was founded nearly 150 years ago but works diligently to give students an education that is innovative in technology and enterprise.

Education

The business program at Benedict College includes four majors in the areas of Accounting, General Business, Business Administration, or Economics. A cohort style MBA can also be completed with specializations in General Business, Management, and Supply Chain Management. All MBA participants complete 24 hours of core classes, followed by 12 hours focused solely on their area of concentration. The MBA core curriculum is well-rounded with courses like Managerial Accounting, Business Analytics, Advanced Corporate Finance, Marketing Management, and International Business. Students from every major can be a part of Benedict’s Master’s of Business Administration program. However, those who do not demonstrate a significant business education background may need to complete up to 18 hours of foundation coursework. Foundations of Business Statistics, Foundations of Finance, Foundations of Management, and more help students be fully prepared for the rigor of this program.

Student Life

The Career Pathways Initiative and Service-Learning Programs offer services such as career assessment, career readiness workshops, resume development, experiential learning opportunities, and more. Students can apply to become a Purple Briefcase Ambassador. This position supports the Career Development Centers’ mission by helping students and faculty navigate the Purple Briefcase program. All Benedict students must complete a minimum of 120 service-learning hours in order to qualify for graduation. This can be done through student-led outreach programs like Brothers in Unity, National Society of Leadership and Success, Sister Act, and Tigers on Alert.

Students can also apply for micro-internships. This innovative opportunity connects students with short-term, paid, and fully virtual assignments with national companies and organizations. This program gives students invaluable real-world working experience while allowing top companies to identify talent and potentially offer full-time employment opportunities.
There are seven residence halls and one Living and Learning Community on campus. Campus tours can be scheduled in order to see the beautiful town of Columbia, South Carolina. A virtual tour can also be found on the Benedict College website.

Online Programs

Many online courses and certificates are available through the Benedict College Online portal. They do not meet the criteria for college credit, but there are more than 1,000 self-paced e-learning options offered. Courses are taught by active professionals in a variety of high-demand industries. Business professionals can benefit from courses like Accounting Skills for New Supervisors, Advanced Project Management, Basic Internet Marketing, or Building Successful Teams.
